Even though trauma may seem overwhelming and impossible to overcome, it doesn’t have to be this way.
Life can be beautiful, but it can also be brutal at times. Traumatic experiences are very stressful and, most often, unexpected. Violence, car accidents, assaults, betrayal, death--these horrible situations can cause you distress, even many years later.
That’s because these past memories are stored in your brain and nervous system, along with some powerful, usually negative images and emotions that can be triggered by current experiences.

What is trauma?
For many people, trauma is the result of some extreme situations, like war or death. But the truth is, this term is much broader than that. Psychological trauma is what a person feels or how they react to any event (or series of events) that is distressing or overwhelming to them. Trauma can be the result of any situation that deprives you of a sense of safety, trust, and control.
If so, I am here to offer you hope because you can OVERCOME TRAUMA! You can regain joy and lead a content and fulfilling life. It won’t happen overnight, but you can take the first, most important step even today.
I’m here to help you deal with past traumatic experiences and reclaim control over your life. My counselling services are aimed at adults ages 18+.

When it comes to trauma therapy, many decades of research and client outcomes demonstrate that EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a very effective solution. I encourage you to find out more about this method.
Discover EMDR Trauma Therapy
EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that can help you process and heal from past traumas, distressing memories, and emotional wounds.
EMDR is based on targeted eye movements and guided therapy, and it allows you to reprocess painful past experiences in order to reduce their impact on your current well-being.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation. It involves the rhythmic, back-and-forth stimulation of the brain that happens by crossing the mid-line of the body, typically through eye movements. Thanks to bilateral stimulation, patients achieve a distancing effect, enabling them to view those past experiences as far and small.
The goal of EMDR therapy is to move from a state of distress and feeling stuck in the trauma to a state of healing, resolution, and improved well-being.
In other words, you can finally deal with your trauma and regain control over your life!

Is EMDR effective?
Yes! There is solid scientific research proving that EMDR therapy is a very effective method when dealing with past traumatic experiences. My clients are living proof that EMDR does work.
“Seven of 10 studies reported EMDR therapy to be more rapid and/or more effective than trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.”

Evidence-based Approach to Trauma Therapy
Patients with traumatic experiences usually long for one thing – relief. Is this how you feel? I want to help you achieve peace of mind and relief from your difficult past. That’s why I practice only evidence-based approaches that are proven effective on many patients with various experiences and backgrounds.
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy: Extremely helpful when it comes to processing and resolution of your traumatic memories.
-
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): It helps you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors related to trauma.
-
Narrative Therapy: This type of therapy empowers you to separate from your problems and view past traumatic memories as external influences. Thanks to narrative therapy, we can create new, more positive ways of thinking that align with your goals.
-
Attachment-Based Therapy: Rooted in attachment theory, addresses childhood trauma by focusing on early interactions. For adults, attachment-based therapy involves revisiting childhood memories, identifying unmet needs, and empowering clients to address these needs using internal and external resources.
I will work with you in the approaches that you feel most comfortable with. During our consultation call (which I’m warmly inviting you to schedule today), I will tell you a bit more about these approaches and why they are effective.

Frequently asked questions about Trauma Therapy
Can I overcome trauma?
Yes, you can! Even if right now it seems impossible, with the right support, you can overcome your trauma and learn how to live with a difficult past. That’s what trauma therapy is all about – because overcoming trauma on your own is very difficult and even impossible at times.
What methods do you use for trauma therapy?
EMDR is my primary approach, mostly because of its effectiveness. However, I use different approaches based on my experience and what my clients feel comfortable with. We can work using Narrative, Cognitive-Behavioural, Solution-Focused, and Attachment-Based therapies.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults.
Do you offer online therapy?
I believe that face-to-face therapy in my office is more effective and, as such, I do not offer trauma therapy online.
What are your fees?
Counselling fees are $220 for 60 minutes and are based on the recommended fee schedule published by the College of Alberta Psychologists.
Do you take my insurance policy?
Although I don’t bill insurance companies directly, you will get a detailed receipt, which you may submit to your health insurance company for coverage (subject to each company's policies).
